its just an article arbitrarily deciding what is or isnt art, and goes on about failed art (art that didnt meet the creator's intended vision), and ive already addressed that. it doesnt say anything about art being objectively bad or good. i have nothing new to say to any of that.

" I take failed-art to be the right sort of thing, to result from the right sort of action, and to have the right sort of history required to be art, but to be non-art by having failure where being art requires success."

Alright you realise all of this is a personal abstraction on the general idea of art? This has no merit as an objective view on art because this very view on how art works is a subjective undertaking.

You really don't understand the concept of personal interpretation, literal definition, and how objectivity and subjectivity work, do you?

yeah, so still waiting for an example of objectively bad art and proof that it's objectively bad.

why y'all arguing with someone who is so clearly set in their ways, like if he wants to use his artistic tastes to feel like he has a big dick, let him

Look, if you don't take the same things away from that then fine, but idk why you are being so personally aggressive about it, it's just sort of distasteful. You understand that most people can disagree about something civilly right?

Look I even agree with you on quite a few points you've made I just don't come to the same conclusions from the things I believe and have read. There's nothing personal about that, it's a discussion -

Have another look at the first source and the second, and think about the different arguments and if you don't agree that's cool. Just say that and explain why like most people would

It's a philosophical question that still gets discussed today. It's more correct to say that neither answer is correct however strongly I feel about one side and you feel about another, but how can you have a discussion if you just get rude

Alright, so you're agreeing that our views are both valid and different, therefore our views on the objectivity of art is subjective. So if our own views on how objective art is is subjective, does that not also mean that art itself is subjective?

I've just CHECK MATE'd you.

Please, I haven't won anything. That's like telling Galileo that he's won after he's successfully explained the theory of gravity to you.

"This does not mean, however, that there is no one answer or opinion that is more right/correct/accurate than others."

people who think like this seem like theyre just looking for a way to feel superior.

"That said, viewing and understanding art does have roots in objectivity; that is in the mathematical reality of physics."

lmao. do i have to explain why that is a retarded statement?

"Handel's compositions are on the same level as Bach's because opinions :^)"

The irony of this post is that Handel was generally considered Bach's superior up until the 19th Century, was more revered in his time and had a greater direct influence on the ~greats~ of subsequent eras. Even Beethoven considered Handel to be the greatest composer of all time.

The "objective" standards must've been redefined or something.

"I knew for certain that this particular piece of painting had real substance and merit. (Portrait of Rimma Simonova) My friends and classmates agreed that the painting was a great work of art. My instructor at school also said it was very strong."

Well yeah, even though I do love this album, I can absolutely understand why anybody wouldn't like it. I could write an entire review justifying a negative opinion about this.

I could also write an entire review justifying a positive opinion about Brokencyde or Sachiko M.

Because there's no right answer.

"It's a philosophical question that still gets discussed today."
Except it's not discussed and it's well accepted fact in all academic circles that inferior and superior art exists. It wouldn't even be possible for example to make a "history of art" without being able to quantify those things and people with actual KNOWLEDGE and EXPERTISE know how to do it, but you nerds on the internet have to wave your subjectivity flag around to feel adequate in your malformed "opinions" that you so cherrish even though they are so fickle that you yourselves should recognise that just because you liked radiohead when you were 15 and had pimples doesn't mean they actually are a great band (you don't STILL listen to radiohead, do you?)
