Never really listened to these guys. All I heard was a few singles back in the day that didn’t really jive with me (but tbf, I considered it to be too “soft” then, whereas now I’m more open).
Ordered their discog and looking forward to tackling. How do these guys compare to bands like Brand New, Manchester, Modest Mouse etc? If I love those bands, is this up my alley? Or who are they most similar to?
I’m going to listen regardless, just somewhat curious what to expect.
After this, I have The Antlers, The Dear Hunter, Bon Iver, The Mars Volta, Dillinger Escape Plan and Deafheaven on board — never listened to any of them but ordered all their discogs on CD. Lots of good new music coming up. Hyped.

And here I am usually buying a download or two off Bandcamp a month lol
JEW is very much a pop/rock band with some emo touches. This and Static Prevails are very 90s emo/alternative rock and are, imo, some of the best examples of the genre in the 90s. Bleed American is perhaps their definitive pop/punk record though simplifying it to that would do it a disservice. Futures is where they began to mature their sound and give it a bit of a darker edge. It's a masterstroke of pop/rock songwriting.
All of their records have a slightly different sound and vibe, usually alternating between dark and somewhat moody to lighthearted and poppy. Personally, I like these fellas more than MO and Modest Mouse but aside from early MO, JEW doesn't really sound like them. They're inmy top 3 bands of all-time.

Lol. I hear you. Apparently enough though. I like physical copies.

Oh man savor these listens buddy! They must be "just" pop rock/emo, but they're the pinnacle of it, in my eyes. And yes, Futures is their masterpiece. It's perfect. Clarity and then Static Prevails comes in a close second and third for me. It's all great. I feel they stumbled for a couple albums (Chase This Light, Invented) but then got right back on track with a more mature, if sometimes subdued, sound.

Awesome man, I am definitely looking forward to it! Starting with Clarity and going chronological. May go back to the first two at the end, but I’ve heard they aren’t all that good.

I made an oopsie, Clarity & Static Prevails are my next favs. Static has lots of redeeming factors. Clarity is better, I think.
Anyhow, this is roller coaster of a discography. You can hear them transform a couple times without losing their edge or personality, so there's something for everyone.
Just wait til you get to Futures. It's one of the reasons I think 2004 was the best year for music since I've been alive. Goddamn this is making me listen to Futures again right now lol.

Yeah Futures slaps, I don't seem to love this one as much as everyone else though. Probably because I got into them with Bleed American so it may be just that

this is head and shoulders and practically the whole body above the rest of their discog (yeah futures doesn't hold a candle either)

Starting here isn't a bad idea but Static Prevails is by no means a weaker album. I have it at a 4.5.

I’ll definitely listen to it, just not sure whether it’ll be before this or after their whole discog.

Static is top tier but may be less accessible than their later stuff. Starting with Clarity then doubling back to Static later is a good idea. In fact going Clarity > Bleed > Futures pretty much covers their trifecta. They're the most important albums. After those 3, check out Static or any of their other albums in whatever order.
