So should i bother with Old Man Gloom if i'm not too big on the sludge side of things? I mostly love Isis for their atmospheric and emotional sound, and even Oceanic was still a little bit to sludgey at some points. Also, i do like some clean vocals from time to time

Old Man Gloom’s set was by far the best of the openers. Seeing Brodsky play with them was really really special. I’ve never been huge into them but they have some really great songs. I would recommend checking out the Ape of God I, it’s probably their best and has some of my favorites.

OMG focuses on atmosphere as well, but not in the beautiful and ethereal way that Isis does. They focus on the ugly noise side that makes you uncomfortable. They are indeed sludgy but often in a hardcore sensibility sort of way. I'd recommend checking out Ape of God I & II and listening to the rest if you like what you hear.

OMG has its side of emotion here and there, but yea they're as hardcore as modern sludge gets and they marry noise in parts or altogether depending on the album. if anything check out OMG's Zozobra, an epic comparable to stuff from here.

OMG definitely has atmospheric and ambient elements to their music, but sometimes the tracks with that stuff are separate from the sludge/hardcore stuff (i.e. Something For The Mrs. and Accord-O-Matic on Christmas).
Personally, I'd start with The Ape Of God duology like XingKing rec'd because with those two albums, you get what I think is a summarization what OMG are and what they can do as a band. TAOG I is all over the place; some songs are short and fast tempo while some have 3-4 minute long ambient/noise intros before jumping straight into the faster tempo hardcore/sludge riffs. TAOG II is slower and lengthier with the average song length clocking in at 10+ minutes (there's only 4 tracks).

Pink Floyd showed the way and raised the bar so so so high.ISIS along with Tool are the only modern bands that take music to another level following PF's quality.they don't just play music;they are making art, they deserve to be regarded as something more than musicians.it's not only the technical part of their music which is flawless, it's the concepts which they cover.so deep.their lyrics carry unmatchable intellectuality. so above the casual thematology of most bands.

MOTA stopped being good after Quietly though, Isis never stopped

The bass on this album along with ISIS in general, doesn't get the attention that it deserves.

Caxide's work with Red Sparowes (esp their debut) is absolutely monstrous. Awesome bassist

This band doesn’t get any press or coverage anymore. If they ever got back together, they sure as hell will. Hopefully for the right reasons mind you.
