all elliott albums are essential and perfect
ranking them is dumb and pointless
|
| |
havent quite reached that level of love for the man yet
|

I started with XO. Some truly amazing tracks on that one for sure
I like how all of his albums are bold on RYM

This is the only album I've heard and I still can't get into him as much as everybody else idk
|
| |
i highly recommend you check s/t or figure 8, depending if you want something more stripped down (the former) or something bombastic (the latter)

I'll go with Figure 8 this weekend then

@AmerFlag I feel that way with a ton of singer-songwriters (which I feel is, unfortunately, a loss), this is aight, but I'll get bored halfway through, and listening to self-pity can be kind of irratating.
|
| |
you have great taste anyway let don't worry :]
|
| |
Thanks mang. As far as singer-songwriters that I actually listen to with regularity, I'd say Grouper, Sufjan Stevens, Scott Walker, and damn, I can't really think of any more actually.
|
| |
I listened to one Bob Dylan album and I was like eh
That's just typical me with older 'classic' music tho
|
| |
@Let those three are wonderful for sure.
@iamamanfromspace damn, not digging dylan? i feel like he's pretty accessible
|
| |
@Spaceman Well given his obvious acclaim I'll give him a fair shake one of these days and actually listen to a full album of his some time. The reason that I like the artists I mentioned before is because not only are they great writers, but their backing music offers something interesting and really complements them. Scott's music has some beautiful orchestral arrangements backing his voice, Liz's gentle, obscured voice works perfectly with her hazy instrumentation, and Sufjan, dude just rules. The backing HAS to be engaging for me, which is why I generally don't vibe with artists like this.

I listened to Blonde on Blonde cos it's his most acclaimed it seems. Good but I can't bring myself to love it, which is how I feel about a lot of 'classic' albums from before the '90s.
This might have something to do with me feeling overwhelmed by how much music there is out there if I go beyond the year I was born. Like, I'd rather be well-versed in more modern stuff ('90s and 21st century music) than go much beyond that right now for some reason.
|
| |
@Let If you enjoyed Sufjan's latest album you should dig this. Similarly stripped back but very beautiful indie folk with a lot to offer with its lyrics
|
| |
Yeah, I gotta give it a listen sometime. I haven't been listening to a ton of 2015 stuff. I've been hooked on Memphis rap lately.

@Let The difference between you and me though is that I listen to a ton of singer/songwriter and I for some reason can't get into this like all others

Holy shit, I'm the exact same way. I've just now started trying to get acquainted with older music, and always felt weird when all these albums from the '60s and '70s never hit me as great as their reputation would suggest
