Though reading what I wrote there again I called When the War Came "almost metal" which is just not true lol but my opinion on the song holds.

Keep in mind this list was before WATWWABW; that'd come in somewhere around #3 now
Also the formatting got fucked because it was before the update

I read that this band has some fucked up lyrics. that makes me dig into them

Sons and Daughters is such a perfect final song, never liked it when I was younger but it's so cathartic

Yeah that’s a great one. I love the Decemberists’ epic, storytelling stuff as much as the next guy but I have a soft spot for their more simple, sentimental stuff too. I’m sure it’s no accident that pretty much all their albums end with one of those.

The run of Picaresque -> Crane Wife -> Hazards of Love was something else. The King is Dead is also an excellent album but it marked the end of Meloy's creative push to create concept albums.
I can't be bothered to listen to anything post What a Terrible World... and I hate that because they used to be my favorite band of all time. Picaresque marked a very important part of my teenage years.

My absolute favorite live band. They're never not amazing. The last time I saw them concert ended with a massive sing-along of sons and daughters

This one is cinematic without being cheesy and over the top. Also has some nice heavier moments too. Love the synth work here too.
