I agree with Andcas. This album doesn't get nearly enough recognition around these parts, it's so amazing. I can never understand why people enjoy their later material when this album is sooooo fucking perfect.

ewwww
can we get back on topic... how about how awesome the vocals in "the irony of dying on your birthday" are. i love how he practically blows his voice out. people constantly deny it, but there was definitely a strong screamo influence on the this album

i like his screams here much more than anything he's done since

i definitely like his screams now -- they are definitely more "hardcore" which is perfect for their present style but the screams here are just so emotional and sincere. i like the fact that he doesn't really know how, i think it adds so much to the sincerity of the record. it's like they are more of outbursts and uncontrolled then something planned out.

I like his scream the best on Still Searching. His voice seems like it lost its edge on the last couple releases.

It did get better from Waiting Room to The Fire, but I still don't think it sounds as good as Still Searching.

I actually agree with spirit about liking his screams more here as opposed to later outings.
feels very sincere and heartfelt, one thing that sticks out to me about this album (and the EP before it) is that budddy isn't a talented vocalist, he's just an artist who sings his own lyrics. Yah know, kinda like jawbreaker and bob dylan and trophy scars and shit?
when I saw them live buddy couldn't really sing for shit, but man he was on those harsh vox

If I remember right, a lot of bands in the post hardcore craze (even though it was all being labeled as screamo) back then used pitch corrector on their albums to have their voices up in the higher register and then they couldn't sing worth a damn live. Story of the Year and Dead Poetic were like that too. I think SOTY ended up down tuning their instruments live just so the vocalist could try and hit the notes from their first album.
