I'm thinking about doing one - might spend a decent amount of time cooking it up, as this took me by surprise as to how great it really is.

I find it kinda funny how some people are so eager to see an album's rating on the front page just to have their own rating validated. XD

Easily the best thing they've done since Crack the Skye, this is phenomenal

I just wish they would veer into some kind of a mythological concept or theme again in the vein of Leviathan... maybe even a direct follow-up titled 'Megalodon' or whatever.

Veering on a 2.5 for me after my first listen but probably gonna end up giving this a 3.0 just out of support for the band since I am genuinely happy for them for trudging on despite everything. Good on them, 'ya know

I’m sorry but I am just not hearing it. Just a bunch of melodies and a severe lack of “gettin the fuck down” which is the best parts of mastodon

"you forget there's only 70 people using this site now. it's going to the moon!"

meant on RYM, but Puppets is right that it's already bucking the trend by drifting back up a little.

my prediction looking more like a padme meme now

Also, it may not seem like lots of people use the site from comments. That's just indicative of the community being smaller. The site might be damaged and gets LESS traffic than it used to, but the site still gets traffic.

I've always considered an album's average rating more important than its flagged review. The review is just one opinion among many, no matter how well written it is or how eloquently it gets its points across.

True, but the featured review includes a why. I consider site average, full reviews, and comments discourse equal parts of the pie. Staff/emeritus or trusted-source reviews can get more weight. But the conversation is def what Sput has over RYM.
