Charli fans don’t even defend her music anymore they just look at you like this:

I'd shoot kingsoby first since he's the first one to lay down those 5s before the sock puppet brigade rolls in

lol i don't think an emeritus who hasn't posted in 10 years is behind it. seems obvious some old account got compromised somehow. very odd but i guess the taylor swift bot army goes that deep.

hard to say this isn't her worst since the pre-vroom days (i know those albums have shooters please don't come for me)
every song has a cool nugget of an idea or two, but few songs develop beyond that. at its best when charli is doing her bitchy lou reed impression (rock music, wink wink verses) or just burning out completely (card declined, magic metal montana). the rest just feels a little too 1975 (i.e. boring as shit) to me which is shame since that thy slaughter album a while back is actually really cool!
said it already but it bares repeating after hearing songs like camera, i'm afraid, persona: between music fashion and especially film there has been no shortage of new charli endeavors to check out post-brat. charli has either acted in or scored a new film every month in 2026 so far. if you're completely burnt out on music and want to go do that other stuff then go do it! the last thing anyone wants to hear tho is half assed songs about how painstaking it was to force yourself to make another album amidst all the other stuff you'd rather be doing instead.

interesting to think about this album in contrast to yhwh nailgun's new album (coincidentally titled 'magazine'), with both kinda exploring the ever increasing lack of permanence in art and media, structuring the songs/tracklists to feel like music as phone swiping, album covers as post-modern statements. i actually think charli conveys this theme semi-decently except many of the songs (as short as they are) are still clinging hard to their tidy pop structures.

Can we go back to brat summer?

I'd say this was the biggest disappointment of the year but tbh as soon as I heard the singles during the rollout I knew this was gonna be mid city. There's a few gems on here but this is extremely boring overall.

really sounds like she's in the process of figuring out what's gonna work after brat. wish she'd give it another year to marinate, especially considering that the wuthering heights soundtrack felt more enticing than this. but i like that she's exploring
