Ok this album might be grower. Meaning it grew from a 2.5 to 3.5
Production is jarring but I think I get what they’re going for. Little pretentious all around tho
|
| |
Pretencious is a contentious word. But the production here really comes across that way to my ear. Like I get it, you wanna sound different.
|
| |
100% on that brother there’s an air of ooh look how different and artsy we are for a metal band, we’re not like all the others here
|
| |
Exactly, and I kinda like that they are trying something new, that’s always good thing for bands to do.
But something here is uncanny. I need to listen to it a few more times
|
| |
I don't know. the production on this is grating as fuck. might be the worst production I've heard in a loooong time. there is not a single riff I could make out.
|
| |
Yeah there aren’t really riffs per se.
The guitars do not sound like guitars. But that’s kinda cool
It’s touching on industrial

Personally don't think this is as good as I Let It In but actually love the extremely saturated guitars, very unique.
|
| |
Surely it’s unique. But immediately this doesn’t hold a candle to “I let it in”… or the cold sun OR Prepare, consume, proceed.
I think folks forget this band is coming off 3 classic albums
|
| |
Ok maybe not classic.. but very fucking good

"100% on that brother there’s an air of ooh look how different and artsy we are for a metal band, we’re not like all the others here"
Is it such a bad thing to do things differently? I get what you guys say, but we can't simply label something as "pretentious" just because a band wants listeners to notice a distinct stylistic choice.
|
| |
That’s why hate that word “pretentious”
It’s still art
they are certainly making a statement with this album.
|
| |
And I’m glad they made that stylistic choice here.
But, does that make it good? I’m not convinced.

Finally worked out what this reminds me of.
Death From Above 1979-core.

Listening now… you’re onto something.
