Oh yeah it is. Amazing record. People compare it too much with their older stuff, and then go 'oh, it's different, must be bad then', whereas it is, in fact, super good.

There’s nothing skippable here whatsoever, albums rules from spoken word intro to abrupt end

The mental gymnastics this band goes through to justify Faust touring with them is both hilarious and pathetic.

I'd respect them more if they just came out and said "Yeah we don't care he committed murder, he's a good drummer." Fuck I'm pretty positive such a statement would actually be well received by their fan base. But this weird "but he isn't a homophobe" and "it was the BM culture" shit is so fucking cowardly. He fucking murdered someone, simple fucking fact. There's no justification for it, so don't try.

I don't even care that Faust tours with them (i never thought he was a good drummer but w/e) but I really hate the way this band are handling the situation.

if ihsahn is still doing that teaching job then not endorsing any edgeboi positions is probably good for that side of his career

edit: lol nvm apparently he did "guitar lessons" lmao

Yea I mean if that was his concern then he shoulda never brought Faust in in the first place. It just seems like they wanted to grab Faust for their tour, while also trying to promote Faust as just "misunderstood" so they can sit here like "Hey we're not bad people, you just don't understand!"

It's this weird have my cake and eat it too situation that makes things worse moreso than better.

EVEN THAT IDEA WORKS! But they won't do it, mostly because Faust has said he feels no remorse for killing the dude. But if he didn't speak at all and the bandmates said he was "rehabilitating or some shit" I guarantee a ton of people would believe it.

Literally ANY idea at this point is better than what they're doing.

“The mental gymnastics this band goes through to justify Faust touring with them is both hilarious and pathetic.”

The article you linked doesn’t even mention Faust touring with anyone. How did you arrive at the conclusion these statements were made to justify anything?

Your “it was the BM culture” bit can’t be inferred anywhere from the article you linked. Seems you’re just pulling stuff out of your ass. I’m sure there’s a lot of things wrong with how these guys are handling their shit, but they aren’t in that article. If you have any links to the band actually doing “mental gymnastics” and talking about the issue you bring up I’d be interested to read them.

FWIW, I remember reading an interview with Ihsahn and his stance was basically “Faust did his time in prison, now let’s all move on”.

I didn't mean it in present tense, the whole 2013-2014 debacle has been hanging over this band for awhile. And Gaahl is blatantly giving Faust unnecessary PR. The band have constantly been saying "Faust ain't homophobic" like that's the biggest issue with him.

"It was just this atmosphere. We were very much into it at the time, [but] if I'm being perfectly honest, there is a lot of stuff I don't remember; we never did drugs or anything but there are memory lapses. I think at the heart of it is the deep desire to distance yourself from everything else that you see that feels very hypocritical. If you kind of dissect things, obviously there are so many things that we accept in as society that is fundamentally wrong. We're kind of used to it, y'know? We take it for granted," Isahn, interview with Vice 2017

"FWIW, I remember reading an interview with Ihsahn and his stance was basically “Faust did his time in prison, now let’s all move on”."

I don't remember this but if you can find it for me I'd be grateful. If that statement was made, then all my arguments go out the window and I'll accept that.

Yes, I can certainly agree with that.

It was this interview. It’s both reasonable and nonsensical, imo, but can’t be arsed to go off on too long a rant.

God damn. I googled for about an hour and a half and this never popped up nor do I even remember this interview based on it's year.

Welp, that just about shuts down everything I've said. Thanks for showing me.
