The Hybrid is a 4.5 to me, that opening track is a facemelter

just gave this a listen in full. thought the first few tracks, ilovelife and closing 2 were all good, but man the middle is pretty rough at points. johnnascus and issbrokie in particular are awful on first impression.
im here for the more uplifting tracks and grateful vibes, could be corny shit if it was anyone else but danny, but the more rogue beat choices can be pretty grating and just dont work. the dnb bets towards the back end fit better

Yeah that JOHNNASCUS feature is not the right choice for that song. Almost just changed the song the first time I listened to it.

i really enjoy anthony's vids and his overall review style, but its increasingly hard to consider him objective when he is dropping interviews with the artists he's reviewing the same day as the review and courting comments from the terminally online featured artists
ill give this a few more spins, my impression right now is that the beat choices are largely good but the vocal features are average at best and dont add positively to any track. danny himself has some good flows and is at his best here when being grateful and vulverable, but it lacks many memorable bars, strong themes, or sense of humour from previous albums. there's nothing with the storytelling and imagery of say jenn's terrific vacation here

“i really enjoy anthony's vids and his overall review style, but its increasingly hard to consider him objective when he is dropping interviews with the artists he's reviewing the same day as the review and courting comments from the terminally online featured artists”
Maybe I sound conspiratorial but I feel like theres a new social media ecosystem of artists and reviewers rubbing eachothers back to gain clout and stay relevant, it completely ruins the intergrity of the reviewer and the art and creates blind hype cycles.

god forbid a bald man enjoy something

Bald men deserve backrubs

Critique isn't objective in the first place and it's hard to argue undue bias. I wouldn't really want a critic to pretend they're not an excited fan of a release and it's not like Fantano has never ragged on a bad release from an artist he enjoys.

if youve already done the interview with the guy, youre less likely to come out and give it a bad or mid score. but yeah it was just an observation and all fair points and i wasnt implying anything deeper really.
the best tracks of this are the really at the front and the back

Who cares what Fantano thinks in 2025 tbh

I don't mind Fantano tbh. I barely watch his shit, but I'll see some of his shorts on YT every once in a while lol.
|
| |
No problem with his content, I used to watch it frequently, but I think too much weight is given to his opinion

” Who cares what Fantano thinks in 2025 tbh”
Alot of people do, hes the biggest reviewer on the internet, small artists would kill to get a mention from him
|
| |
I'd argue his cosigns held more weight 5-10 years ago
