Ive noticed that about media these days everything now has to either be the best ever or the worst ever. There isnt a middle ground anymore

Ya this isn’t the worst thing ever. It’s competently assembled and performed well, it’s just so goddamn fucking boring, tbh give me something terrible that at least tries something new over something this drab.

It’s like 20 mins and easily feels twice that.

I also realised i need to strongly distance myself from pop metal because it only pisses me off

There’s good pop metal out there. I think Poppy is pretty damn good even if the Fish production can get a little grating sometimes. I really wish she’d work with someone else. Like, if Negative Spaces sounded like a Knocked Loose record during its heavier moments without changing the poppy (hah) parts that would really elevate it.

I like poppy but Negative spaces was a lightning in a bottle moment for me with popcorn core. Poppy is better when she is unpredictable and doing random shit rather than staying the course of same sound. She will also never surpass EAT

Can someone just form a solid band that becomes the most mainstream metal band ever that IS metal without any fucking stupid gimmicks because we desperately need it at this point

United Nations (the band) did the whole "masked politician" gimmick better back in the 2000s

Vocalist now giving interviews disputing being an industry plant… hard to defend that when you’re booked on a world renown huge metal festival without ever releasing any music

This is undisguised Architects worship, comparably behind a wall of production to hide the lack of a single interesting riff, it's drummer doing the heavy lifting instrumentally and copying the use of religious iconography. Charlie is a talented enough vocalist and songwriter to artistically stick the landing whilst maintaining his career ambitions, something that Architects sadly swung at and air shotted. The downtuned but ambient, pop but metal dichotomy is road tested, although some of the wobbly, mumble rap OOooOOs had me laughing out loud, how do they take it seriously? It will surely date this record, but perhaps it was only ever made to seize the moment.
