After two listens the first thing apparent to me is that this is leagues above Ohms, and that's like in the middle of their discog. I'd say about on par with Diamond Eyes, Koi and SNW

Yeah I’d say on par with SNW. And probably their straight up prettiest since that album

I like Deftones and their vibe but was never a huge fan or anything. Should do a discog run sometime soon. Like how this album sounds though, more immediate than Ohms for sure, which never really grabbed me.

One listen with headphones and another listen through a speaker and for me an album like many have said that I feel is on par and their best since Koi.

First track opening riffs on both albums (Swerve City and my mind...) ring very similar in my ears and I'm not sure if I dislike that or find it warningly nostalgic.

Ecdysis is the stand out track for me so far.

Overall I think I'm leaning to a 4.5 (but may drop to a 4 upon further listening).

Either way, I'm happy to still be listening to new Denton's music.

Can't believe they got Michael Gira on the closer.

I’ve looped it 4 times on my speaker at work (night shift tonight unfortunately). I’m gonna listen with headphones in the gym later. I got a vinyl on it’s way but prob won’t be here til Saturday. Then I’m gonna listen on vinyl. But I do not get production gripes. It sounds phenomenal even on this speaker I got here. It’ll only be better with my headphones and of course vinyl

Eh production could for sure be better but it's not that big of an issue. Some tracks sound better than others though, not all songs are mixed to sound the same.

I can understand finding this boring if you've never cared for Deftones. This album won't change your mind.

But to have Gore / Ohms rated a 4 and claim this is the boring, or the bad one? Puzzling

I like Deftones but not enough to listen to the same thing for years, they stopped being an interesting band years ago.

This is so much better than Ohms, but would still rate it under DE and WP I think. Gotta hear it a couple more times, let it sink in more

Prob worst first listen I've had with a Deftones album. Doesn't even seem like a grower, but crossing my testes...

Ohms wasn't bad by any mean but this feels like a return to form album imo, most songs have been great so far

On first listen, a few standout tracks, but also possibly a majority that put me to sleep.

Crazy how the narrative around Ohms seems to have changed. Wasn't everyone raving about it when it came out?
