I don't think City Burials is as bad as you think it is, but can respect that opinion.
I would say it's right behind this

That one just does nothing for me, this one has its moments, just super boring for the most part.

Yeah and the title is so stupid too. It doesn't exactly rule of the tongue or have a catchy ring to it lol

The title flows well and doesn't really stick out from their others, apart from being the longest.
Even more into this now. Warden is catchy as hell and the closer's lyrical landscape is just gorgeous.

this album is like a flaccid penis compared to the raging hard on that is their discography.

Except for City Burials.

City Burials has grown on me a ton since it came out, their last album with any sort of character.
I think it's more respectable when you remember that it was recorded as an actual solo album but the label made them release it as Katatonia. it feels more sincere and less like Jonas trying to capture the Katatonia sound without Anders, which is what this and Sky Full of Stars feel like to me.

Damn, Sky really was void of Anders

there's a song on the last Demon Hunter album that sounds more like Katatonia than this entire album

^ I can't even with that
As a former christ-core kid...
I can't even with that.

it's called The Pain In Me Is Gone and there's no way the similarity isn't intentional

You know what...
If not for the vocals, I might agree with you

maybe it's just because I've been drinking so my judgment is clouded and my standards are low, but this album is sounding a little better now

So have I, I guess we're a good match rn.
I played Katatonia while I was with my twin sister the other day (who is not really "into music" but remembers hearing my music as a teen) and she told me it sounded like Demon Hunter
So yeah, that comment triggered tf outta me and just about gave me an aneurism lmao

that's wild lmao
I'm also a former christcore kid. Demon Hunter, The Devil Wears Prada, Underoath, Norma Jean, etc. is some of the stuff I grew up on. not so big on Demon Hunter anymore but the similarity to Katatonia in that song just really stuck out to me lmao

I never got the Underoath/Norma Jean trend, but if you ask anyone who was around in 2010, I wasn't known for great taste back in the day.
My faves were August Burns Red, As I Lay Dying, and For Today.
And Demon Hunter and The Devil Wears Prada.
ABR is the only one I can really stomach now.

I love ABR. probably my favorite christcore band as well but I can appreciate some old TDWP every now and then and actually enjoyed The Act and Color Decay quite a lot.
never got into For Today tho, their lyrics were too fundie even for me lol
