It's as good as The Glowing Man, I'd say. I need to go back and finish Leaving Meaning and The Beggar, but when I tried those out, I couldn't find the urge to finish them.

This feels like a companion piece to The Glowing Man, more than anything else. I think The Beggar is slightly underrated, I've said it elsewhere but time will be very kind to that album. Well worth a listen from front to back.

the consistent use of vocal collages really does the heavy lifting for this album to have its own identity.
a whole bunch of well-trodden territories (trilogy era, angels of light stuff, soundtracks, annihilator, even a bit of love of life) but i love 'the merge' for splicing in some body lovers shit. that project's a really overlooked goodie in gira's career
not that i didn't enjoy 'the beggar', but it was somewhat uneven for me so i never got back to it. and 'leaving meaning' was a snooze no matter how many times i spun it.
all of that to say, this one's good. agree with everyone that this seems more the natural trajectory to follow 'the glowing man'.

Yah finally gave this a go and it's a very... reflective album. You can see so many nods to Gira's past projects everywhere. Luckily not in a bad way.

Rather than growing on me like I hoped this would, I seem to get less enthused about it each time around. The only song that sticks with me is Rope (Away) and the rest feel so much longer and more tedious than they need to be. Still good, though, just not SWANS level good

Yeah, apart from the middle section, I can’t really get into it either. It’s good, but I just jammed To Be Kind and it smashes this one in every way. Even Leaving Meaning is more engaging as a whole.
