Yeah it sounds like almost reverby, it’s super noticeable.
This isn’t that bad but it is kinda drab

Holy fuck, you pointing out the percussion made it so much worse. It’s bad on year of the snake. I’m hoping their older records have some energy? This sounds like it was made dirt cheap on autopilot

Their first three albums all sound grand, like it took a million dollars to create a sound that massive and full. This is just the sound of an embattled couple working out their marital issues on the remix with minimal effort and terrible results. It doesn't sound produced at all, much less by the guy who made The Joshua Tree.

Their first three/four are a completely different band.
They sound like an impossibly large collective and Win's vocals have a fiery Springsteen passion, yet only ever incidentally the focus. The percussion is a million times better, the compositions are far more layered... It's literally just a different band.
This one is just Win and Regine working out their marriage in front of everyone

yeah it’s almost pointless trying to equate the two
tbh I feel the same about The National but I know that’s slightly more controversial as people do think there’s value in some of their material post-SWB (and I guess Natty do win on a technicality, but it’s waaaaaay closer than I’d feel comfortable admitting).

Eh, The National post-SWB are really mediocre-to-bad, but that's a more conventional case of a band running out of demons to sing about and the ideas not coming as easily as they used to.
Even then, though, they have songs like Space Invader and Smoke Detector that can stand alongside some of the band's best.

Sure, the circumstances aren’t all that similar (except maybe going on for longer than necessary, when you DON’T have anything relevant to say) but the falloff is just as drastic imo

I'll disagree there. The National are still capable of putting out great tunes, it's just frustrating that they don't
Arcade Fire are full-on indie rock lolcows now lol

They haven’t written a proper decent tune since Quiet Light / Rylan. Natty were also better at their peak, so the falloff is the same even if they’re still better now… hehe this is the “technicality” bit

As boring as The National have been, none of their albums are as actively bad as this or Everything Now
