It does! Lovely stuff.

Really curious how long this will remain in constant rotation, but it has been like that since release now (whenever I was listening to music of course).

"that isn't such a long time tho is it"

🤭

You're right. Then again, it is pretty long considering how I haven't really been in the mood for one particular album all day every day for a while now. But yes, it's only been a week!

No mate, jam their debut

This is nice, like Nicepool [in the movie!]

I hope the concept of this album is that they don’t make any more music under the Opeth name

Everything past Watershed has been another band besides Opeth. If you want to go full prog, just rename the band or do a side project. Then Mikael decides to bring back the growls and it just feels so forced. Just like their weak take on ‘done better’ prog bands of the 60s & 70s.

It really does just sound like their new stuff with growls. The attempts to harken back to their old atmosphere sound feeble and forced

I understand they gotta make a living and this brand is the best way to do that, but it does tarnish my memory of them a bit

Now that I think about it, they’re really playing into the whole ‘prog band that should have called it quits decades ago’ trope lol

However, it is also not that good

Yes’ albums after their golden age were also not that bad

Yet alienated a high percentage of their fans

Why should this be any different

It’s really bad! It’s like Opeth forgot how to write really cool, intricate passages and went straight for boring, meandering plods.

None of this felt forced to me. The growls sound better than ever, the orchestral additions are fantastic, and each song sounds very different than the last but its still cohesive.
