I guess what I’m mainly getting to is that after the congregation, all their music lacks really much of anything outside of Einar’s voice. Yes I’ve heard the congregation was under Einar’s control mostly but I mean that album and all the way back had thrilling drum sections, great guitar riffs, mind-bending time signature shifts. And then like Malena onward it seems to be heavily electronic based, very sparse (Pitfalls was really guilty of this). Then Aphelion was basically an Einar solo album. It was a major slog. This seems to be like Aphelion but with the facade of trying to return to a louder, more thrilling sound, but instead of returning to their first half of their discography, it’s all repetitive and nausea inducing. Like they acknowledge they’ve turned into a solo project but are like “quick! Cover it up!” And it’s just a bunch of repetitive instrumentals. Atonement was really bad. But again this is based off the first two singles. After that I just decided I’m not listening to this.

I enjoying this much more than the previous 2 albums. Sounds fresh, energetic and powerful. Melodies are catchy. It's not a breakthrough album, but I expected much less from them and was even reluctant to play it at first

Just saw their show in Buffalo, they absolutely killed it. Tons of energy, Einar sounds amazing. These songs are definitely built for a live setting too, they sounded huge. Was a small bit passionate crowd. Love this band lol and this album really is great

Yea, this is only growing on me atm. Amazing band. But I agree they're treading water, even though they're doing it with quality. The sparseness isn't really bothering me, but listening even to Malins makes me miss the focus on the instrumental side of things a bit

Yeah but did Malina have any song coming anywhere near the greatness of Faceless? Didn't think so...

I love many songs on Malin a little bit more than Faceless, BUT this record is still young

Faceless is easily the song in here most reminiscent of their older catalogue in the approach it builds mood. In some ways it really reminds me of Mb Indifferentia mixed with Mediocrity Wins and adjusted for their current sound.
That being said, I think Starlight is my favourite so far off this record, this guitar solo at the end goes hard and I'm not even that huge on guitar solos overall

I am really conflicted on the rating to give this one, eh. I'm so far thinking like 3,5 since it's still the weakest from their catalogue, on the other hand if it wasn't for 4 songs on Aphelion (Out of here, Silent Revelation, Castaway Angels and Nighttime Disguise namely) this would be much better than it. Way more even throughout but is missing all those highlights.
Idk, looks like I'll have to sit on it a little more
