The two singles off this were not really that bad. Don't really love the rym hivemind sensibilities, but it's certainly closer to me than sput's general taste is.

I hated Houdini initially, but it grew on me more and more over time, and actually fits in well contextually with the rest of the album.

It’s funny reading critic reviews on this crying about him punching down etc etc, when it is clearly a record made to condemn the character. It’s why he purposefully chose to centre the theme around a 2004 slim shady walking into a very different modern day, as it’s an easier way to atone in some way for what he said back then. The issue is that he doesn’t articulate his position very well and it comes off contradictory the more you peel away at it. I completely agree with Luca that he should have allowed slim shady to commentate on current day figures, and that it all felt like a bit of a wasted opportunity, but then I don’t think, as em actually highlights in guilty conscience 2, he has the willingness or the energy to go down that route these days.

Like we’ve all said already; he should have either completely embraced a slim that commentates on current events, or he should have just spent the record deconstructing the character, instead of repeating material from 20 years ago or saying edgy current day shit and hiding behind slim the character as the reason why he’s saying it. You can clearly see he was in a dilemma writing this record lol.

That being said, what we got I’m very happy with and even feel he did a great job on the concept, music and production, with very few cringe moments, which is a miracle in itself, because his last handful of albums are wrought in cringe.

Haven't really enjoyed most of the album, but the classic sound throwbacks are pretty great.

In all of its infinite juvenileness, the "man bitch" line in Habits gave me a legit belly laugh.

I've always found the whole "Slim Shady" concept a bit cringe and it puts me off from listening. It was fine when he was in his 20's, but for a rapper in his 50's it just gives me the ick lol. Not sure if I can listen to this seriously.

I’ve been told this album is anti woke. Can anyone confirm?

It’s a case of Eminem trying to have his cake and eating it too

I get the concept but that doesnt excuse the fact that the subject matter is so mind numbingly repetitive, and most of the choruses are fucking ass

@decisions: That's what I meant by filter too. What I was implying is that I can't imagine a RIP Shady with him rapping filter-less from hell would be much different than most of this album.

Also, this is a great review Gonz and an excellent analysis. Before I understood the concept I was like "oh damn lol" because I knew this album would end him, but I quickly realized what he was actually doing and then fell in love with the concept. I've only listened like 1.5/2 ish times so time will tell if I'm overinflating this, but right now it feels like easily his best since MM2 and possibly even better.

Yeah it's really like that most of the album IMO, this is his best in a while. I personally like the choruses too the majority of the time; this thing is loaded with bangers.

Haven't jammed a full Em album since Recovery (which is underrated as all hell) but I'm gonna jump into this one simply based on the huge difference in opinions here lol. Sowing 4.5 def has me intrigued.

Gave this about 10-15 mins before I knew it was dogshit again and not worth listening. God the youtube comments give me cancer at all when they talk of Eminem. Never seen such an overrated artist in my life

Wonder how many rape jokes there are on here, I can look past this being technically shallow an inconsistent cuz I dunno, rape and abuse and homophobia is just so fun! Makes me feel young again hehe
