"The Stone's Turn" get me every time. That song is massive.

I listened to the Stones Turn last night on a nice pair of headphones and was just captured the entire time. I find this whole thing exhausting but in the best possible way

It is exhausting, but it makes you feel things, which is the whole point about it. It's also cool how you can anticipate the next riff or melody within the chaos with repeated listens.

The only reason that kept me from 5'ing this is you could still trim down a good 5 to 10 min from "World of Light" and get the same impact imo

This is probably either my second or third favorite Aaron Turner release outside of ISIS (Seminar III is my absolute favorite).

Yeah, I was about to call this exhausting but regarding the sense of bleakness mostly. It’s actually paced very well and the production is fantastic. Definitely atmo / tension centric and not a riff fest, which is certainly to its benefit

As someone who has come to enjoy their collabs with Keijo Haino even more than their normal material, I really appreciate how that improvisational aspect has become more and more prevalent on each album. So refreshing for post-metal stuff

I would also recommend Ehnahre to people who like this band

Hang on… this release specifically is improvisational? Genuinely hadn’t noticed outside of knowing it’s a thing with Sumac. That’s some talent and / or also maybe listening to free jazz has helped me, lol

There are definitely parts of it that are pre-composed but they have been pushing the improvisational elements further with each release

Demon have you heard the Keiji Haino collabs? If you’ve been digging some free jazz stuff you might find them really cool

Is this more focused and not just a jamming session? Been a while since i checked out Sumac last one i checked was just kind of an unfocused wank fest. Then again i should revisit them

They’ve been getting progressively more improv since Love in Shadow. This one is a bit more captivating than May You Be Held but it’s not as tightly composed as What One Becomes or The Deal. This may be a positive or negative depending on how you feel about free improv.
