To be honest I don’t know that I actually understand what crust punk even is, but I vaguely associate it for DT with their kinda messy diy-style late-middle era where they’d just kinda throw shit at the wall and try out a bunch of stuff that didn’t necessarily work but who cares because it was cool anyway, with garage-sounding production and a “punk-y” attitude. As far as that aesthetic goes, the new one feels like a bit of a callback to that way of doing things mixed with the more straightforward old-school heavy metal style they’ve been doing since Underground Resistance.
