Lana's similarities with approach to glamor are only similar in an incredibly superficial sense. There's a lot more potency in the themes of dissecting the complicated roles that she plays as woman than I get out of the Rich Guy problems that VW focuses on.
Mind you, I think that Vampire Weekend executes it about as well as you could, but I still think that the subject matter is worth criticism if you're anyone who has grown up with two feet on the ground.

I loved the debut and almost wore out the CD and remember being really disappointed with Contra - only liking about 4 or 5 songs and thinking it was a bit flat.
Must have been a decade since I heard it so maybe I need to go back and reevaluate.
And who cares if a band has money or not. To be honest it was kind of refreshing to hear lyrics about Oxford commas, Louis Vuitton and Darjeeling tea for a bit of a change.

Pitchfork ranked it 7th of the 2010s so he's not Robinson Crusoe. Definitely Top 50 for me.

consider the timing... this is what happens when you speak out against the illuminati. Wines 'made a call', next time it could be your family

It's always fast and always late,
It never leaves the Empire State,
I hope you let it go

I mean it's very much a VW album, even if they do experiment with the production, so if you didn't like VW before, not sure you will here either

The "rich / white / preppy" narrative around them is really weird and outdated criticism given they only did it for their first couple of albums, and they've said it was more of a parody than anything (coming from working class families and diverse backgrounds). It's tiring to keep hearing that but I guess it left a bad after taste for some here.
Releasing 5/5 great albums in your discography is hard to come by nowadays in the indie space since most flame out. I'm just ecstatic that they're able to produce this quality after so many years

Classical is classic

is a funny take considering they have a song on this album called 'Prep School Gangsters'
