I feel like that might just be a relative perception. Taylor Swift is far more ubiquitous, for example. Even so, didn’t it absolutely demolish commercially? I still regularly hear tracks from this playing out in Shopping Centers and stuff.

Meh, Ariana herself is big enough to where radios and shit are always going to spam her newest stuff even if it sucks, or if the album itself bombed.

yeah i hear songs from this all the time in public tbh
we can't be friends, yes and?, boy is mine can't be escaped at the grocery store

if any "big" pop album seemed like a commercial dud this year it was def dua lipa's album

Scuro, TS demolished to the extent her mentally ill fanbase has streamed and bought the album with the intention of keeping it at #1 as long as possible
in terms of broader cultural zeitgeist, TTPD is a massive flop. I have yet to hear any of the singles on the radio, at a mall or grocery store, or any context like that.
Ari at least has gotten a bit of play in those types of environs near me. Dua's got none, Katy's got none, Charli's got none, Chappell's gotten a little bit, Sabrina's gotten a good bit
only one who's really *popped off* imo is Billie. Birds of a Feather gets heavy radio play and is outstreaming TS' singles even with Swiffers trying to game the algorithm
TL;DR - for the most part, mainstream girl pop has absolutely crumbled this year

crumbled in terms of commercial success relative to what they're used to. am i supposed to believe Katy Perry is anywhere near the cultural vanguard like she was in the early 2010s
also crumbled in terms of quality because good Lord help us, most of those albums are fucking putrid

All those afformentioned "crumbling" artists have more than 100,000,000 plays on multiple songs off their respective new albums on spotify btw (well, except Katy, who is actually crumbling) and Billie and Sabrina both have billion play songs (and this Ari album has a song with 900,000,000), that TL;DR seems like a strange lesson to pull from this year tbh

maybe its cause they're really new but feel like chappell and especially sabrina popped off about as hard as anyone this year
billie may be #1 streaming artist or whatever but i feel like idk anyone above the age of 18 who actively considers themselves a billie fan.

As if streams = quality anyway. Thank god we know what to like because of Shamus
I don't think this is a banner year for pop or anything but idk calling the death knell of girl pop when girl pop IS performing well seems myopic

Please god do not let the Stream Numbers discourse take root in Sputnik too. I can't handle it.
