Hey dude! Thanks for the greet. Hope you've been doing well I'm not really a music reviewer anymore, but still love the listening and review-reading parts of all this.

I was at least glad this review reminded me that this had come out.

I feel kinda bad because it feels like this band's entire premise is doomed from the start.

'Didn't realize until this moment that Lana del Rabies put out a record this year'
this prompted me to dive into the Shadow World and it was a good (unintentional) rec, cheers

This'd be pretty decent if it were a video game ost or something.
As an industrial album, it sounds lightweight and embarassingly cliched. I think I kinda hate it. But I'm so done with the cyberpunk-vaporwave wankery that's plagued us for the last ten years in general.

"On RAT WARS, HEALTH, are not only making the heaviest, most genre-obliterating music of their career, they’re documenting just how insane it feels to be alive right now. It’s The Downward Spiral for people with at least two monitors and a vitamin D deficiency. “RATWARS” is a definitive statement on the insanity and the insipidness of contemporary life."
Okay yeah, I hate these fucks now.

It's a less exciting version of the (new) doom ost with an overblown sound and pop vocals. I understand the hate.

Yeah, this didn't do too much for me. I think the vocals are my biggest hurdle here, as they're so nondescript and at-odds with what the music is trying to accomplish. And the music is already kinda generic and unengaging to begin with

Surprisingly based takes from the Sputcrew despite the glowingly positive review here. I’m trying to think of another similar example and I’m coming up short
Like I said before, thought this would settle in at around a 3.5 sort of average (maybe it still will - was just expecting a more positive start)

If you exclude Johnny's review, the rest of the writeups for the new Sleep Token (including a contrib review) rated it 4 or higher. So I guess that's the closest equivalent right now

Koris is spot on, the vox do absolutely nothing to enhance this beyond the mundane and conflict with what it appears to be attempting. For this to work there needed to be a little menace or bite in that department. I mean sod it, even a modicum of personality wouldn’t go amiss
