This is just monotonous enough to be good background noise, perfect for putting on while I am writing and not distracting me. So far, the most interesting riffs and melodies are in Cider Skellingtons.

Throw some headphones on. Nothing monotonous about the build. Every second something else gets added until it reaches its peak. Would've great to have that transition woven into the track a bit better (like some ominous guitar swells or feedback and then boom). But as it sits right now the transition is simply "I had this incredible opening portion to a song, and had a kind of good black metal part form a diff song and smashed them together to get to my 19 minute runtime". Either album is immense and wonderful. Just being nit picky

last five or six minutes of the album really tie a ribbon on this one

Album is neat, but long. And it isn't because the 19 minute track has a folk part. The folk part is nice and well-paced. What followed it could have been better paced imo.

'it's not completely blowing my socks off' [2]
yeah this isn't really doing much for me. I'm having no 'ah shit that was great' moments. I don't think it sounds good either, the guitars seem kind of buried so it's like drums, strings and vocals with a wall of distortion.

jamming the fuck out of this. Cedar Skeletons probably still the best song on here.
do agree with some of yall about the start of the album that while the 10 minutes of folk is great the transition to the black metal left a lot to be desired. Like yeah it hits hard but you spent TEN MINUTES building, you might as well do it fluidly at that point imo

No one is talking about the final build-up and climax of Enduring the snow drought, but that section is absolutely incredible. Feels like being blasted in the face by a snow storm. Also, Cedar Skeletons in SOTY material. What a massive album, goddamn.

why? is Decibel or other print mag worth a subscription these days? might be a good xmas gift
Cedar Skeletons has been blowing my dick off for months before this release and I'm pretty well acquainted with his other work so the impact in full on this is just a bit diminished for me personally. like no matter lush, polished, climactic and folksey it's still kind of the same handful of tricks at the end of the day. I look to someone like sput's own Etheral Shroud for a more novel direction to take this style
Makes for a great contemplative walk through the woods no doubt about that
