Suck on my shaved lady taint, Travis! I am a billionaire and no one with decent music taste likes me so most of the world. Let’s make money off of this inferior sounding recording because I need more than a billion dollars. I need to own my music catalog and everything so I can sell it off when I am old and no one thinks about me anymore!!!!
I mean… “Suck on me harder, Travis!”
I like discourse intercourse by Colton. He oughta trademark that.

This is the moment I realized how many bangers this one album actually had. It's almost a greatest hits album in and of itself.

Anything popular has people wax philosophical/political but at some point you would think people would realize that trying to talk about economic models and political ideologies and how they relate to a pop singer is silly.
|
| |
Name a single question more relevant or complex to music journalism than "what makes people like this stupid shit"
|
| |
"Does it sound good" is a more pertinent question if it's a review. If something is popular there's definitely an anthropological inquiry to be made in regards to the "why" and beyond that "what" it means or what can it tell us, if anything, about the current zeitgeist.
As for Swift, I think she's attractive yet anodyne enough for wide appeal. She's also incredibly savvy with her pop-sensibilities and cleverly constructed feisty lyrics, often the resilient spurned heroine. She's the total package for teenage girls.
But Swift as a capitalist/socialist is nonsensical. No artist who sells their music in a market economy can be seriously called a socialist. It doesn't matter if you're Swift or RATM. Unless you're the Korean People's Army State Merited Chorus and Symphony Orchestra, you're a capitalist artist just by existing in a market economy.
