“I don't even know how I'd rank Code Orange tbh - there are songs on every album that are 5/5 gym bench pressing bangers, and there are songs on every album that I'd cut out entirely”
bear with me for a second…
Underneath - 2.5
The Above - 2.5
Code Orange is a 5/5 band case closed

of their non KID stuff, id say
Underneath (3.3) > Forever (3) > I Am King (2.5) > The Above (2.5)
Clearly I'm their biggest fan (not), but still, this aint the sauce that they are capable of

Yeah Underneath and Forever are tied for me I think

I think I Am King is easily the best of their not kids stuff but that’s not really saying a lot

I Am King is good but I like the weird introduction of industrial and even grunge elements of the later two
Listened to "kids" the other day and I actually like Underneath and Forever more

This album, like A7X is going to require a track reshuffling. It just doesnt flow whatsoever.

Forever (4) > Underneath (4) > The Above (3.5)
Haven't listened enough to I Am King, Love Is Love, or Cycles to properly rate them.

This thing is fantastic, I'm not sure why so many people are put off by this record. It's definitely an extension of what they began on Underneath except maybe a bit more accessible and streamlined. It flows beautifully as well.

Lucca you really like their newer shit more than Love is Love?

This one is certainly dumber and more uneven, but yeah some of the songs grab me more tbh
They're pandering to old men like me who grew up with all the bands they're trying to emulate here though

"i have never understood why this band is so popular"
any band that writes generic breakdown laden music is going to go to the top of the charts because it's "easy listening" metal essentially. Can name plenty on those notes, maybe not in similar sound to this but the worst of the worst music usually always makes its way to the top

Before people want to cast stones at what I said, I should make it clear that does not mean all popular music is bad by any means. There's plenty of popular acts within any genre I tend to enjoy but there's definitely a pile of shit that always tends to sell like hotcakes

Album slays, finally they wrote something coherent with a start, a middle and an ending. I liked their previous stuff but never could figure out which song they were playing, very unconnected. Live, the same, hopefully their performances will make sense form now on, but I doubt it!

I agree with Lucca that this and their later stuff is better than the COK era. I became a fan during then and find their new sound much more ambitious and interesting. Plus combining grunge/alt rock and hc is nothing new. Bands like Life of Agony and Only Living Witness did this and had great records in the 90s

"Album slays, finally they wrote something coherent with a start, a middle and an ending."
If this comment is made with respect to each individual song, then absolutely - they're more coherent than ever. If this comment is made with respect to the album as a whole, wut.
