'Awesome death metal album. The naysayers are the typical "it doesn't sound like their albums in the 90s cry cry" whiners'
not really, lol
Sometimes bands change and do great things, sometimes they don't. I haven't even been following this band's progress recently and yet I certainly wouldn't expect them to sound the same in 2023

Aw, I've been following them since the early 2000's when my brother got me into them. The only thing I really don't dig is The Unspoken King, but everything else I at least really like if not love.
Those two EPs might be right under NSV for me. And before anyone says anything, Blasphemy rules but there are definitely some songs I skip on that album nowadays.

I love all the band's eras too. Except for The Unspoken King, all their post-None So Vile stuff is underrated.

I do think this is solid there’s just something off about it that I can’t quite put into words. Maybe it’s just bias idk.

Tried this again today....big fat no.

I call this the Opeth syndrome. Once you change your sound, rename yourself something different.

@Wizard: let alone the fact that Flo is the only original member and everyone else who made Cryptopsy Cryptopsy is long gone

I kinda do cause I find that they don’t sound a thing like Cryptopsy anymore and sound more like every other generic technical death metal band. That’s just the way I feel. Sorry guys but everything they’ve attempted after Once Was Not is just not for me :/

I get it but I don't get it.

The original member thing doesn’t bother me anymore. You look at how terrible Underoath used to be and then later on dropped some banger albums with 1 og member. Like whatever. If it’s good it’s good.

I’ve kinda been a bitch about Cryptopsy for the last 12-ish years. Just really disappointed that they choose to still go with the name despite not having anything to do with earlier Cryptopsy. I don’t think my stance will ever change and I don’t think they will ever put out another album that’ll put me on my ass but don’t let my negative comments get in the way of yall’s enjoyment. And I do agree with the Underoath argument and that the og lineup thing shouldn’t bother me. In the case of this band, it does though.

I mean there are like a million bands that I love that have had lineup changes, I dunno man
And it's not like they're now a hip hop influenced jazz band with hints of progressive folk rock now, they still sound like they're in the same ballpark to me

As Menorrah Burns

Imo they just became more frantic and chaotic and sometimes it buries the possibility of actual memorable moments
When those moments come they're sick but like, some times it sounds like riff salad imo

Lmfao bro I thought that was a reference to me being Jewish at first, had to reread it to separate the "men" in "menorrah"
