man I did a complete 180 from not caring that A7X were releasing a new album to being pretty damn stoked about it. haven't listened to all of this yet but at the very least it's very interesting and not what I was expecting

Avenged Sevenfold has always been a band that's hovered between a 3 and a 4 for me; never impressive enough to approach near-classic status but rarely outright poor (Hail to the King came close though). This changes that for me. It's a 4.5 for now even though I was tempted to give it the ol' hype-5 (I haven't given one out yet this year; is this growing up?)

It's funny, because I just started jamming a7x again a couple weeks ago for the first time in years. Really enjoyed going through their stuff, and I never even checked The Stage when that came out. Didn't even know they were coming out with a new album until earlier this week. It's almost like I got two new albums at once and it's the best these guys have been in, uh, ever, maybe.
I still like WtF and CoE better though. Sentimental albums for me.

"Sampling songs here and there on their YouTube I get the feeling that singles-aside this is closer to a Stage sequel/evolution than what seemed at first. Eager to jam"
i honestly hadn't thought of it until reading your comment, but as weird as this album is, it does feel like a logical progression from the stage. it's like they took the weirdest moments from simulation and sunny disposition and made it the base sound of the entire album.
think having identical production (for better or worse) contributes to that feeling too... as well as shadow's even greater use of vocal effects this time round, all the classical guitar on here, and to top it all off... having the same drummer two albums in a row for the first time since city of evil --> s/t. all stuff they started doing on the stage but really turned up to 11 here.

This album is so front loaded. Game Over is one of the best songs they've ever written while G is one of the worst. Such a schitzo album.

I thought the entire G/O/D sequence was very entertaining honestly

They went from ripping off ten different bands on HttK to literally trancending music itself with the likes of Cosmic. Fucking hell, this album has been beyond unbelievable.

Also Brooks Wackerman is a better drummer than The Rev and I don't think they do this and The Stage with Rev.

brooks is prob a more talented drummer but lmao this album would've been even weirder with the rev... he's the dude who wrote all their weirdest stuff prior to this album
and they already made the stage with the rev, its called city of evil
