"You don't get it it's SUPPOSED to sound like shit and unlistenable trust me bro trout mask is a masterpiece it's MEANT to sound terrible, have sloppy instrumentation, and sound like a drunk guy doing bad blues karaoke in a dive bar! You just don't have a high enough IQ to appreciate the suckitude as ironic genius!"

Hadn't ever heard of Trout Mask Replica before (the band is Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band if I've found it correctly?). Very interesting stuff based off of the first few songs. The vocals aren't used as an instrument in a melodic sense but more as a tonal presence delivering a story. I can imagine this would be an acquired taste. Fascinating.

I'd just like to note that this comment was primarily written while listening to "The Dust Blows Forward 'n the Dust Blows Back', which could be a lost civil war folk recording as far as I'm concerned

Venin I've now listened to more of Trout Mask Replica and I am internally rather upset that this exists to some extent, why have you done this

@Calc: Sput got removed when Trebor did a terribly written psy-op on BMTH's Amo.
@johnny: what gets me here is your insistence that using emotional connection to judge music is bad. it's like people forgot about the inherent subjectivity of music and are now insistent on being their own little mini-Fantano and trying to be "objective" with every facet of music. sometimes things just feel right, and usually if a song moves me to the point of tears it pretty much is a 5 by default on my scale.

Well class before we get to Art Bears' Winter Songs we have to talk about Henry Cow's In Praise of Learning, and before we talk about Henry Cow we have to talk about Faust, and before we talk about Faust we must briefly touch on the invention of electricity, which is like lightning, but it listens to safe words

jfc the reading comp here is almost colton-level. spotlight one single instance within any thread where i have claimed this, or where fantano ever set himself up as an entirely objective critic while you're at it

"which has incapacitated me to the point that i cannot explain basic bitch subversion to whichsoever maladjusted saps hell-bent on navigating THE SOUND WAVES solely via an emotional compass lodged up their own bermuda triangle"
translation: "I cannot explain my opinion to someone who's dumb enough to believe emotional connection is the most important part to them when it comes to music."
ps: using big words like this every other word doesn't make you sound smart, it makes you sound unbearably insufferable and pretentious.

One of the highlights here has got to be the piano work. That intro progression on Rain is absolutely lovely, and the vocal melody really compliments it
