I can't believe we're in a year when national, beach house, and swans drop garbage albums
Everything is crumbling

'Always found their albums to be growers (I know I'm not in the minority here) so hard to give an accurate rating off the bat'
It depends. When not even a hint of mild intrigue can be found, then why preserve? It's not as though it's difficult to grasp what's happening here. All the subtlety this band previously had has long since evaporated.

Is this conjecture based upon one single?

any hope of me truly getting into Swans disappeared when lockdown ended (well, I could try Filth again, that one's decent and not 6 days long)

Swans are incredible tbh. Seems as though they could be running out of steam though. I really think there's content to enjoy in all their eras.

"All the subtlety this band previously had has long since evaporated."
One could argue that the subtlety is the only thing that remains.. That being said I still thoroughly enjoy this release. Will keep my rating high to make up for all of the butthurt people complaining about the feature list

Nah, it's all bells and whistles without any actual song-writing substance. All the gloss of commercialised indie putting everything front and centre. Soulless nonsense. Phoned in dross. It might even have worked if they wrote some immediate hooks, because that's all you were ever likely to get from this surface-level bullshit.
They don't care anymore, neither should you

sounds like Chatbot bought the rights, used additional ‘performers’ and imitated The National. It churned out believable z sides to be fair. Tune in next month for another round when it’s learnt how to make a 2/5 album (aka IAETF)

I ended up listening to some songs off this, tbh without sounding amazing they felt much better than anything on I am easy to find, but I hated that album

usually growers not showers (of shite), aye
Impressive amount of denial and inability to differentiate between the basics of music consumption going on in here

I’m doing my best to give this a fair try and I think my enjoyment of it is peaking right about now after about 7 spins. I do think the first half is generally pretty good and if it maintained that quality throughout it’d still be their weakest since the debut but would only be slightly behind IAETF. The back half is definitely where things take a turn for the worse, even if some of those songs have bits I like. On the whole the album does have a solid flow and I can appreciate the thematic consistency in the lyrics (it almost feels like a concept album). But at this point I think I’m already pretty close to mining it for all it’s worth.
