giant pacific octopus is a cute kero kero bonito bside. best song here by some distance
Goldfish is one of the only songs here that made me at least vaguely chuckle, rest of this is mostly mediocre with the exception of the first half of Dead Wood, which is certified Not Good

I normally like their stuff, but this one is bloated as hell and says next to nothing

I'm glad that this album has more energy, more aggression and more screams (by an inch) than their last two albums but the guitar work is again like in those albums uninspired and mostly just bland - Rory, where are your fun and creative riffs like on AAFoC and Mindsweep ? - and most songs sound like their are in their first draft stage, for example Bloodshot could've been another ravecore chaotic ride in the style of Zzzonked but no, instead the song goes pretty much nowhere after the first minute, they just repeat the chorus 2x more times and that's it.. most songs just have a simple song structure and what you get in the first minute, that is what you're going to get to the final second
Shame really... just compare how the songs from Mindsweep are constantly changing tempos, ideas and styles throughout their runtime and how stale the song structures are on this album.. Still, atleast the album is better than The Spark.. somewhat

Yeah, the opening of Goldfish was promising something that never came .. I still like the song, it is always nice to hear atleast some harsh vocals from Rou in the band's new era.. overall I like the whole album but that is more to do with the fact that I'm just happy that this album has more energy and more aggression than the previous two.. a good album, 3/5
But it is sad that this is the third album in a row from them that is nowhere close to Mindsweep when it comes to the greatness, heaviness, chaotic energy, passion, creativity and so on
This album sounds like its release would better fit if it would be released after Mindsweep and before The Spark

I always love their interludes and outros. They're really good continuations of the songs, while you can also use the shorter songs for playlists

the 4 that lasted maybe a few hours was PURE copium lmao my first few jams of this i was in shock and almost didnt even know how to process it
i have really REALLY tried with this thing but its got no personality or character or charm, its hooks are shockingly flat and only utilize the most basic scale degrees (legit some borderline color decay shit), its lyrics straight up suck, and its loaded with so many production choices that tank otherwise decent songs, and it breaks my heart to say all of that. at least pls set me on fire and dead wood are the level of quality i expect from this band
