I remember I used to listen to this band a lot when I was getting into metal 7 years ago. Some time later, I started to listen to Dream Theater, Opeth, Dear Hunter and other big-name progressive rock/metal bands; and Periphery pretty much started picking up dust in my music library.
Listening to them again for the first time in like five years and they're so much worse than I thought they were ;3;

"There's better stuff out there" is the only thing I think of when listening to them. They're not bad, they're just a safe and harmless band that doesn't leave an impact on me anymore.
It also seems like they have adopted this "funny internet band" persona with these album names to appeal more to a juvenile audience, like Alestorm.

Might honestly be my least favorite album of theirs...but I still like it.
But at this point Spencer's the #1 thing keeping me here.

Definitely Spencer for me. "Silhouette" is one of my favorites, it has a vibe similar to Spence's synthpoppy project Nik Mystery.

Ufff... I don't have a problem with our different takes on the album but man, is this review weirdly written
But about the album, it's definitely better than P3 and has some of their best songs here (Wildfire, Atropos - which one I really didn't liked when I heard it for the first few times but it really, really grown on me - , Zagreus, Dracul Gras) and I even like Silhouette because it is a good break after the chaos attack of Everything Is Fine! but I needed to swap Zagreus with Dying Star because I think the album flows that way a ton better .. Spencer is a great vocalist but I think he shows his pop vocal delivery here maybe a little too much - he is fantastic when he sings more "progressive" like on Wildfire and Zagreus
Yet they still didn't wrote a better song that Letter Experiment - that song is still their peak

Tbh on that album they have All New Materials and Racecar too, outside it is Absolomb and many others.

I love this album. It’s unapologetically Periphery: Heavy, poppy, technical, ugly, beautiful, unpredictable, a bit excessive, and painfully self aware. I am thankful they continue to make music. We need more artists willing to make music fearlessly.

"But at this point Spencer's the #1 thing keeping me here."
i wouldn't go that far but..... yeah do feel like this the least interesting their instrumentals have ever been on an album and that spencer is doing quite a bit of the lifting here. even the worst stuff on p3 like price is wrong and motormouth had some wild riffs
