Lol, that actually made me laugh @Tundra
However, Taurus doesn't really hook me as an opener tbh, it Nightingale that sucks me in. Don't get why their openers got so much weaker when they stopped doing intro tracks. Bring back the intros!

i will say that i have never understood the extent of the Prosthetic hate. It's a mid-tier song by them but everyone acts like it's their worst ever

I will say, it's fine and as you said pretty mid. As an opener it's just so underwhelming, I feel disappointed every time
The rest of Virus is pretty great though

Prosthetic is a great song, but it did take some time to get used to it. It's far more straightforward of an opener than we're used to and also a fairly "normal" song by their standards.
Progarchive is a silly place. I would never want to be so close to a community honed in on only prog. Prog heads are delusional lol

I agreed, and then I had to think of my pie charts and had to laugh lmao

That's okay. I love prog and am a big metal head, but my pie doesn't really accurately reflect my taste -which is my fault. Some of the criticisms I've seen levied at Haken for Fauna and their last few from prog fans just have no basis in reality though lol

Some heavy heavy GG vibes in Elephants here

I agree that the catchy Tracks ground this album a lot. More tracks with catchy choruses similar to Lovebite and Alphabet of Me would have helped imo.
Maybe I was fooled at first by the variety here, because I fear this might not grow on me as much as I expected. Their other albums just have superior choruses

My buddy and I got pretty smashed on Saturday and listened together. First impression was that it was a fun mix of all their sounds to date, but I haven't been able to give it a proper sit down since. I think "Taurus" is a great opener, but I'm all for heavy Haken. Loved "Prosthetic" also for that matter.

@kalkwiese
absolutely.
I'm having a hard time articulating what the choruses are to me. I think they are generally less catchy this time around AND that the non-singles' choruses all kind of attempt the same thing. Virus alone had so much variety with its hooks, whereas here they often go for a lot of quick words that make for some fun moments but moments that sort of just wash over you. The choruses for the album cuts are consistently the least interesting parts, which strikes me as a bit odd lol

I've found it interesting that this album has really needed to grow on me. Even with "Nightingale" I wasn't particularly hooked until the fourth or fifth listen. I'm imagining that more listens will be rewarding, but it'll take time.

Nightingale wore off of me after a few initial listens when it first dropped as a single, but I think it works MUCH better in the context of the album. It's a bonkers track that is maybe a little too enamored with its chorus, but I love how it builds and plays around with its timing and structure. It's like a microcosm of Virus and Vector
