Using the correct pronouns for people you actually know and interact with is important
Using the correct pronouns for a famous dipshit who you'll never personally interact with isn't
|
| |
Would you drop slurs you normally know better than to use on people just because they are “famous dipshits” and you will probably never interact with them?
|
| |
Using slurs is a character issue. Potentially not using the correct pronoun for a famous person is lack of care
|
| |
I think they are both issues of morality and exceptions should not be made
|
| |
(If the misgendering is intentional I mean, if you simply didn’t know then the mistake is forgivable if correction is made)
|
| |
Isn't the whole point of using the correct pronoun(s) to reinforce an individual's identity? It's much more important that those you interact with daily, weekly, whatever, acknowledge them than someone on the Internet who might not know. It's not anyone's responsibility to know every person's gender identity on the planet.
|
| |
Im not talking about knowing everyone’s pronouns
But once you do know it’s important to use them correctly as best you can, and that IS in solidarity with the people you actually interact with
|
| |
Ironically I think overzealous allies jumping on anyone who drops a stray he/him are somewhat counterproductive towards normalizing gender diversity, it's absolutely an issue of morality but also it's an issue of factual accuracy, not really any different from accidentally using someone's maiden name rather than their married name (and meriting exactly as much pushback on the error-maker's part)
What it absolutely isn't is an issue of manners, inclusive language is not a privilege you get to take away from trans and nonbinary people you find annoying when they aren't around to protest it

I agree with all of that, well said
