Yep I agree, and I do think tossing one or two tracks would have cured that slight deathcore fatigue that kicks in later on. I think Wrath would be the one to remove. It seems to repeat a lot of ideas from earlier in the album in a less impressive way, which makes it pretty unnecessary. Honestly I think just removing that one track would make the whole album flow a lot better. But that’s a pretty minor gripe, as I still think the album is excellent regardless of that.

“I just don't know which song they would take out. They're all so good on their own, and each one has been called out as someone's favorite, it seems. Maybe "Wrath"... that one kind of blends in and I haven't seen anyone mention it specifically as a favorite, but it's still really good.”
Dude I had this exact same conversation in my head on my drive to work this morning 🤣

Yeah I thought that until about my fifth playthrough too but every track has a little something to make it unique

Yea agreed wrath could of been dropped. It seems to just make me think "oh this again?" Only part I really vibe with at that point in the listening experience is that one harmony fill. Like that fill kicks major ass. Also, I don't think deathcore fatigue is a problem specifically w this album. Just any deathcore release over 45 minutes in general just becomes a chore to get to the end. Even exoplanet which is my favorite deathcore release suffers from this.

It's not a problem if you're a song type of guy. But I like listening to albums front to back whenever I get an hour to do so.

“Ha ha. What set it off? Were you feeling like the album was too long or deathcore fatigue or....”
I was thinking how much I was enjoying it but that I wouldn’t finish the last trio before I got to work. Then I remembered people saying it was too long. Wrath started and I thought ‘nobody ever mentions Wrath, maybe this should be dropped?’ Then it was actually another total jam.

"Sun//Eater and Cursed to Die are rad, I much prefer when they're riffing like that instead of chugging to hell. Overall this is solid so far"
Feel the same way 100%. Give me that MDM at 300mph! If somebody played me the first 2:10 of Cursed to Die and told me it's the latest band from Scandinavia I would have believed it.

Why do we have to produce metal this way? I feel like I have to actively fight against the mix to keep up with what is going on. Which is a shame, because once my brain filters all the shitty deathcore cliches out, this sounds hella fun.

Mix sucks, agreed. I think it plays a pretty significant role in how hard it is for me to sit through this album.

As discussed in the Angelmaker - Sanctum review, most "top deathcore" these days is hybrid stuff, mixed with prog and/or melodeath, so stuff like fit for an autopsy for instance
Will check this out, I always like stuff that's a cut above the rest

"(She Must Burn being near the top)."
Glad you liked that. It's pretty heavily played in my rotation right now.

Production is off, yeah. Can't quite put my finger on it but it's like the wrong things are too loud at the wrong times. Not all the time, but in certain sections.

I actually don't mind the symphonics pushing to the top sometimes, but yeah, it's a bit too often. And then sometimes when I wish they would be more prominent, they're backgrounded.
Mostly I think the drums and vocals combine to overpower everything else too often.

That's part of why I like Soulless Existence a lot. It breathes more than any of the other tracks.

Lol exactly
After a few more listens, I'm starting to think at least part of the reason everyone raves about the Pain Remains trilogy is because everything I mentioned about the production seems to be less of an issue on those tracks versus most of the rest of the album.
The guitars especially seems to come through better.

As for good deathcore recs, Flugmorph recently asked me for some and here's what I suggested:
the red chord - fused together in revolving doors
animosity - animal
glass casket - desperate man's diary
aversions crown - tyrant
the contortionist - exoplanet
ovid's withering - scryers of the ibis
fit for an autopsy - the sea of tragic beasts

And on second thought I'd maybe add Akeldama by The Faceless and The Discovery by Born of Osiris.
Most ppl will tell you to check out stuff like thy art is murder, a night in texas, early make them suffer, all shall perish or despised icon - but I think those are mostly mediocre, or have problems with their music that make it hard to listen to them. The Price of Existence by All Shall Perish is really good though, if you can get past Hermida's pig squeals

Animosity's Animal is a deathcore masterpiece. I jam that shit to this day.

Akeldama and The Discovery are by far my most played deathcore along with the Doom EP because I was like 17 when it dropped and it was heavy af
There’s a little atmospheric key that hits in the pre-chorus to Sun//Eater and then appears again during a breakdown that absolutely makes that song. Proper ominous shit.
