How did ghosts get on this album? A stripped down song with a haunting melody, and confessional lyrics that don’t suck? Wtf were they thinking?

As my username suggests, I'm a huge fan of Muse, therefore my rating may not be fully objective. But let's face the facts: since Black Holes, every Muse album had at least one really weak track: Guiding Light, Save Me, Revolt, Dig Down... This album has no terrible songs, but there are a lot of funny bops on it(Halloween, We're Fucking Fucked, Will of the People), that can be regarded as cringe, and you know what? I accept and understand this opinion. As the review says, it's an absolutely funny, all over the place album, which wasn't always taken seriously even by the band themselves. 8/10, best effort of theirs since Black Holes.

Best songs imo: Kill or Be Killed, We're Fucking Fucked, Verona

Worst songs: Liberation, Won't Stand Down, Will of the People

ok now that I've actually listened to the album let's rate it for real

yeah regardless of bad songwriting it still got plenty of good hooks & I can't help but genuinely enjoy some parts. however when quality drops it goes into the oh god what are you doing category and it also doesn't come across as witty enough that it'd work well as a self-satire sadly.

I remembered some YouTuber a couple years ago put a song called Will of the People up with an animated music video. The similarities are pretty striking as far as the visuals are concerned. The music, not so much. Pretty sure the kid only writes music for fun, and is some sort of political commentator/podcaster for a living. Did Muse rip this dude off? How long have Muse been kicking these ideas around online, especially the visual of pulling the statue down etc.? This came out in 2020...

Still maintain that Kill Or Be Killed is the result of them listening to Devin Townsend once. Sounds like a B-Side from Epicloud or somewhere in that sort of era.
