I’m not sure I can think of another 80+ minute album that’s so palatable and where every song has a real distinct identity like this. Only two listens in and I feel like I “know” most of these songs already. I can totally see this being a 4.5 for me.
Eager to put a ranking together but at this point I can’t say Flower of Blood is anywhere near my top 5

Doof with just 2 full listens under my belt I'd say there's a more than decent chance of that. I can confidently say it's at least a solid 4, the determiner will be whether any tracks (or how many) click with me at a 5/5 level. I do think 4.5 is probably the ceiling for this - it's just not the kind of album I tend to connect with in a 5/5 kind of way overall, that is unless I really do end up falling head over heels in love with almost every track here. But for what it is, this does kind of feel like it's as good as it gets.

I was completely obsessed with this yesterday but I'm starting to wonder about the album's longevity. Some songs have already kind of lost their magic. On the flipside, I'm starting to really appreciate other songs I initially glossed over, like Time Escaping, Blurred View, No Reason and The Only Place

"If there's any band fully primed to release a year-dominating, career-summising, discourse-creating double album of their signature brand of raw, vibified indie rock, it's Big Thief."
Counterpoint - Big Thief already got there and I'm still half expecting Angel Olsen to get there first.

so i've listened 3 times and pretty strongly determined that this isn't for me, but it's also my first Big Thief album. Willing to give them another chance so which one should I listen to?

Typically I’d say UFOF without a doubt, but what tracks here did you get along with the most?

U.F.O.F. is absolutely far and away the best thing they've done

@Boney listed a few on the last page but title track is by far my favorite here

Hmmm YoYo, your digs are kind of all over the place in terms of the styles they do but with t/t as your favorite by far and "Flower of Blood" in there too I'd def say stick with UFOF as your next attempt. As for the others:
"Little Things" -> Masterpiece
"Simulation Swarm" -> Capacity
"Blue Lightning" -> Two Hands

Not sure trying to force individual song to album correlates in general is all that telling, just listen to U.F.O.F. or a different one or whatever, before this they all barely get to 40 minutes, if that.

Yeah I’m certainly over-generalizing there, and all their styles/influences are somewhat present on all their records, but if you have to reduce the previous ones down to something very simple you roughly get Masterpiece = indie rock, Capacity = pretty even indie folk/indie rock blend, UFOF = indie folk/dream pop, Two Hands = folk rock, and if I had to place those songs on previous albums those are roughly where they’d fit best
