actually a big fan of Sneaks/Soft Effects. wasn't expecting the Modest Mouse/Pixies vibes

Sneaks and Soft Effects rule yeah; Telephono not so much

lmao yeah it's not good although I'm a fan of Dismember just being a shameless Pixies rip. my feelings so far:
A-tier - Soul, Ga Ga, Kill the Moonlight
B-tier - Sneaks, Lucifer, Girls Can Tell
good-to-fine tier: Fiction, Hot Thoughts, Transference, Get Nice
whatever-tier: Telephono

Hmmm I’d find Spoon hard to tier rank if only because they’re so consistent; there are a few that stand above the others (Ga, KtM, GCT) and a couple that fall below (Telephono, Transference). The rest are all excellent.

Kill the Moonlight is psychotically low in that ranking; the rest I’ll accept as fair variance due to how consistent they are. And yes, we accept Britt Daniel supremacy in this house.

Oh man I think Moonlight might be the catchiest of them all in its own subversive way. I think it’s the most unique thing they ever did.

gimme fiction has their best song (beast and dragon adored) and i don't rly get the funk vibes except for i turn my camera on which was just their car commercial song. the run they were on from girls can tell to ga x 5 was too sick

crazy how in one song, this album netted what will most likely go down as one of the year's best closers AND one of the best title tracks

My Spoon ranking's probably going to look different, and I think that's because (re: Boney's claim that Gimme Fiction is the band's least cohesive album) I hear the band at their best when they loosen up
1. Transference
2. Gimme Fiction
3. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
4. Lucifer on the Sofa
5. Girls Can Tell
6. Hot Thoughts
7. Kill the Moonlight
8. They Want My Soul
9. A Series of Sneaks
10. Telephono

Fiction could certainly grow on me. maybe the funk comment was unfair but the whole album has this AM radio slickness that I really don't jive with, too glossy. wasn't huge on songs like Monsieur Valentine either, Beast and Mathematical Mind were pretty good tho
and yeah Moonlight is catchy and addictive af

The title track is really something, captures that "late night walk on an empty street" vibe perfectly.

There's no one out tonight…
Yup, that vibe is definitely intentional. Possibly my favorite song here and probably a top 3 Spoon closer (and they have some massive ones).

Nice!
Never really thought about it, but Spoon does have quite a few excellent closers. Advance Cassette, Vittorio E., New York Kiss, and Lucifer On The Sofa are probably my top four.
