They are quite a bit different than Opeth. Only similarity I ever hear is the vocal delivery over the acoustic sections but other than that its a bit too "grand" and not as bleak as Opeth tend to be. That being said if you are comparing the two within the genre than old Opeth is practically unbeatable.

It would depend on one's understanding of the not-actually-a-word word 'Opethian' I suppose. I find Opethisms to be unsatisfying linguistically, therefore Opethianisms has been deemed superior.

I can see that especially with the Distraction series following more of a one-dimensional, stream of consciousness direction. Though, in this case i'd argue that the album is not supposed to fill in regular spaces. I only wanna listen to "epic music" every so often, otherwise there'd be a huge deterioration of epicness on the down-side, in the first place.. if that makes any sense lol
