this still whips ass

the "almost-psychedelica" description from the review is spot-on

Orange mathematics is king of that psych-y vibe but also shows up in spades here. Top 10 of 2021 material for me.

The fact it is too long matters a little bit, but what's here is mostly definitely v good so yeah maybe it doesn't. Yes?

I think my liking of this depends on how much jackhammer to the skull action I can take on any given day/moment, because sometimes I'm like yeehaw this is the shit and then want to turn it off 10 mins later

yup, that's p much the shape of things

but hey, the MOST important thing here is that these guys have somehow made good on the jankshit Car Bomb sound!? colour me majorly shook and unexpectedly relieved

latest Car Bomb was all over the place and not in a good way, this is a streamlined version of that sound because it cuts out all the unnecessary nonsense. So whilst this is maximalist to the extreme in a aesthetical sense, weirdly it also shows restraint on some level because it knows when to lay down those hypnotic, repetitive grooves.

disagree about Car Bomb, last record was just as good as Meta and made as much sense. Plus the drumming is tastefully technical.

Heirloom is one of the craziest opening tracks I've heard to an album. Just fucking cranial assault

Obscenely good opener, it doesn't even make sense how heavy it is.

I think this is better than Kolass and maybe Contraceptions, but the rest of shug's discog beats this in spades

I really like Meshuggah but I wish they would write more songs like Neurotica or Monstrocity, this has the energy of those two songs but sustains it for an entire album
