First listen, Go Down Together reminds me of Passion Pit.

I could see that. I hated it on first listen (months ago) but it grew on me big time.

Might need to bump this to a 4.5. Such a fun record, enjoying (almost) every moment of it.
Was not a fan of knowing half the record before release but in these strange times with a pandemic and streaming changing the game it's just a way of surviving as an artist I guess.

I thought the same re: Passion Pit, and hints of The Bravery and other such 2000s pop rock, for better or worse

I’ve loved Go Down Together from the jump
It’s not enough that you’re wrestling yourself…

Yeah, the lyrics on Go Down Together hit harder on the album for some reason. I'm really loving this so far! 737, Beacons, Draw Down the Moon, Bialystok, Cold-Blooded, and Speak With the Dead are all 4.5/5 or 5/5 songs.

i'm obsessed with the t/t

Bialystok is probably the worst song I've heard from these guys. not to say it's bad but it still doesn't grab me in the slightest.

^ You just expressed my feelings towards 'Cold Blooded'. Something about the chorus rubs me the wrong way. It feels too much like an Ed Sheeran song at a slower tempo for me :S

favs are prob: Cold Blooded, Speak With the Dead (cant believe they released the closer as a single), and If I believed in love

nice con
I can't believe they released the closer in advance either, seems like a strange move
I love when the music is heavy but still clearly written in a poppy/accessible way (If I Believed In Love is a perfect instance of this)...gives this a feeling of intensity without losing the catchy song structures

Yeah I think Lightning is easily the worst song here along with At Least We Found the Floor.

@Evok: Sorry that idea fell totally off my radar =( would love to know what you think of this, although if you agree with this review then I take it you enjoyed the album quite a bit.
@Wildcard: Not more Lightning hate :-( That song is amazing, can't figure out why it's so disliked here. It's catchy, has great guitars, and has a pretty fluid progression that feels less forced than some other songs here. Top 3-5 ish on the album for me.

yeah it's such a powerful song sowing so I can see why they were eager to show it off, dig that some of the "poppier" songs are not singles at all. strange though overall

@Con: Yeah I get that too. Doesn't impact how good the song is obv, or how great of a closer it is. The album is certainly a weird blend of poppier stuff, heavier indie/emo, and almost...like...stadium rock or something lol. Against all odds, it works.
@tyman: Hells yeah. I mean, NMG still is numero uno for me, but this is closer than it feels like it should be. The whole thing is just so addicting.
