Parksungjoon- read your insightful write up on page 5 and agree and found it interesting. Also yr observation or ratings on Sput and RYM is apt and my friend and I created an algorithm bc those are our two favorite sites for checking album scores. Essientially anything on Sput is 0.4 higher than RYM and an additional 0.4 added to Sput (or 0.8 total for RYM) equates it to a proper /100 (i.e highest rated albums here being 4.6 + 0.4 = 5.0). Also noticed a lot of praise and high scores since lockdown and such last year.

"wait justjoe helped with this ?!!?"
yeah, Joe pointed out in nicer words that it was stiffarsed and airless so I made it a bit less of these things even though they were kinda irreversible, big Taurus energy

Sorry it's a pain to comment on Sput on my phone. I was saying that there's often a 0.4 difference between RYM and Sput ratings. Example: a 3.0 on RYM would be a 3.4 on Sputnik. And then if you're looking at Sput rating add 0.4 to the rating to get a more accurate score based off 100%. The example I was saying was that he highest rated album on Sput are 4.6 which would normally be 92%, which is silly to have the best albums of all time be only 92/100. Thus, I add a 0.4 to Sput ratings, for example, 4.6 + 0.4 =5.0 or 100%. And I was saying the difference between RYM score and Sput is 0.4, but to then get a proper score from a RYM rating you'd use 0.8. For example some of the highest rated albums on RYM are 4.2, thus [4.2+0.8=5.0, or 100%]. Doesn't ALWAYS work, but there typically is a 0.4 difference between Sput and RYM rating average.

it comes down to a core philosophical difference at the heart of the modern music problem: has the full potential of music already been realised, or is it the duty of the contemporary critic (peace be upon him) to hold the carrot eternally above the teeth of musicians past and present and also future in the perhaps vain hope that they will reach heights unreachable by the other bois. is 100% a hitherto unattainable ideal, or is it merely a way of validating the peak of recognised achievements? comrade veldin thinks the latter; comrade colton does not get it. this is why we hold these workshops, all questions are welcome
this is all very basic bitch shit.

>which is silly to have the best albums of all time be only 92/100
i dont think its silly at all.
johnny did a good job of outlining the difference in philosophies, but even more to the point there is no such thing as true universal appeal. in other words, not everyone will agree that something is the best or even very good for that matter, and the more people know of it the more people will disagree (albeit most likely proportionally)

It's 92/100 because no album will ever have 100% of people loving it completely.
It's simple as that lol
