yes spread the word of this album, it needs to overtake dots and loops.

A bit more tuneful, safer overall than Dots and Loops, but really great. The run from Mars Audiac to Sound-Dust is still amazing.

Excuse you for not starting that run one or two records earlier! Mars Audiac is okay, but that being the point where this band suddenly *got it* is a headscratcher to me

Peng through to sound dust are all great. Emperor and Mars are probably the weakest until chemical chords but even chemical chords and not music have great songs.

This overtaking Dots would be a unwanted Xmas present
although the idea that Mars & Emperor are their weakest until Chem Chords is one I can agree with (hmm, close between Peng and Emperor)

Dont write off peng, the closer on that is one of their best songs and knowing in that album period the members had probably the strongest relationship as a band really helps add to the light-hearted fun vibe the songs have.
Just an all round simple and solid album in contrast to their other stuff if you give it a chance and not write it off as the boring debut with less experimental elements going on.

Nobody said it was boring! (I hope!)

@JohnnyoftheWell: I don't dislike the earlier stuff--it's good stuff, and I play it still. Peng's a great record. But Mars through Sound is to me an elevation, and I play those records the most.

"Dont write off peng, the closer on that is one of their best songs"
Very based take
I say this as someone who doesn't jam that record a whole lot, but I feel Margerine Eclipse is a bit underloved in the context of the middle albums (especially Mars) - can understand why people sniff at Chem Chords even though it has some of their tightest lounge bangers, but Margerine isn't that much weaker an end-to-end than this, even if the highs aren't the same

Margerine > Mars too, come to think of it

Agreed with Johnny and Demon, Margerine rules.

Margerine is great but I wouldn't say its one of their best. I think it dips a bit in the middle on a few songs.also the mixing is annoying at times especially on the vinyl record its mixed like a 60s stereo album.

Interesting (old!) Margerine Eclipse discussion accidentally found here as I have just āback-to-backedā this and Marge and honestly, there wasnāt a lot between them
This is bottom of tier 2 / Marge top of tier 3 anyway, I canāt place anything between them except maaaaaybe Emperor (which Iāve always found a touch overrated vs consensus).
Tentative >s in some cases but this is how we stand. Top 3 are clear. Refried is of course, not an LP but I love it! The SD to Marge trio is now very tightly bunched
Dots > Cobra > Transient > (refried Ecto) > Sound-Dust > Emperor > Marge > Peng! > Mars > Chemical > Not Music

That is one very agreeable looking ranking!
Really loved the second single, curious where the new one will end up.

I can't rank the albums anymore; I've just changed my mind too many times. I agree on Emperor being overrated slightly but it's still such a good album.

Ooh, thatās encouraging Trif! I darenāt check. Having said that, not checking feels almost as dangerous. Iām unyielding in my (hopefully) fresh and āclean-slateā perspective though (not long to wait now).
