Eld to Mardraum is defo their low point imo. still good, but not the same degrees of varying excellence that is everything else.

^^Enslaved have become too elaborate and pretentious in their workings, a symptom in rock prevalent in bands with extensive back catalogues.

I was gonna make a remark about how the quality perfectly represents the content within, but thinking about it their album artwork has never been the strongest.

^^I beg to differ, artwork in Monumension (and their 2001-2006 albums) is among the most intelligent and semantically rich works in metal and music in general.

This is imho their weakest effort since Monumension. Being a huge Enslaved fan, I was pretty underwhelmed by this. I mean, it's Enslaved, they can't make a bad album, but by their standards this is just weak and uninspired... These same ideas can be seen with way better results in their three previous albums.

can't agree with that. I think this album is fantastic, but then again I'm a massive fan of their modern sound. I think it works just as well as their previous three albums tbh.

I've listened to maybe half of Enslaved's discography at this point and there is legitimately not one bad album out of the bunch so far. These guys a pretty consistent in putting out great material and, seeing how none of the album averages fall below a 3.5, I can only assume the rest of the albums are just as good. I think when I put this album on I was half expecting they must have lost their touch by this point but nope.

Not very familiar with Enslaved, so came into this pretty fresh. Homebound was decent & some elements of a few songs sounded real good, but overall nothing really leapt out to me. A lot of jarring influences that don't really meld together all that well at times.

Just a couple of songs plus interludes, one of the songs is very viking folk oriented but yeah it's cool.
