I felt a little underwhelmed by this. I dont like the poppier direction they took, it seems to be missing that FF magic, but maybe itll grow on me.

Agree with everything said about this honestly. It is jaw droppingly gorgeous, but also poppier and missing FF mystique. I have been saying that I hope it's a one-time creative decision, but that they don't continue in the poppier direction. It's superb for what it is, but I don't want multiple more albums like this.

i agree Sow...

this was way more immediate for me than Crack-Up was

and Crack-Up was one of my most anticipated albums...

but in an interesting way, all this makes me want to revisit Crack-Up asap

Crack-Up is still the best Fleet Foxes record in my estimation. It features their most daring compositions. It's not meant to be immediate, and in that sense Shore is its polar opposite. But the melodies in Crack-Up will get their hooks in you, it just takes time. My top three moments from that album are the Cassius outro, the crashing/galloping percussion of the opener, and the entirety of Third of May. I just love how that album fluidly progresses between "movements" as opposed to just being a set of standard cut folk songs. It's their most creative and ambitious offering.

dude, yeah

Helplessness blues just resonated with me so much... really stoked to listed to this as a

companion piece to Crack-UP

CU might be a little more experimental while this one hits some Pop sensibilities

These guys were already pretty "bright", this is just borderline saccharine

Neek I can't remember if you actually like these guys or not, they seem like they'd be extremely Your Kinda Thing though
