"never listened to paysage before but i did enjoy this for like 30 minutes"
that's a shame since the 2nd half is even better than the first ;)
I like this significantly more than anything else he's done

My opinion of lo fi black metal has definitely changed over the years but I still get some enjoyment out of this dude's albums every so often. But I also totally understand people who feel like this sounds like rapids of shit lol

This seems to be taking all the 1's for Paysage's entire discog, cause you know if these people are 1-ing this…

i like the idea of black metal so much more than i like 99% of the bands, i def have a pretty superficial taste in this sh*t
i can only take the extremely lofi leaning black metal for so long tho it gets old fast

^ Although 'Rain Upon The Impure' will by far be my favourite of von Meilenwald's, you might want to check the latest album. Far less lo-fi production, and although it mightn't on the surface sound so similar, for me it achieves the same effect of gorgeous & meticulously crafted soundscapes. https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/73680/The-Ruins-Of-Beverast-Exuvia/

That's what's funny though, this isn't even extremely lo-fi, at least not compared to most of his other stuff.
I started out that way but I'm basically the opposite now, I like my bm produced by a cheese grater and my dm nice and clean.

can’t even begin to fathom the statement “this isn’t even extremely lofi” lol but i could be wildly wrong for all i know. the synths and select riffs make this for me, also a decent shower album

Trust me, I would've said the same thing a few years ago. Check out the self-titled or even better, Kerker, and then come back to this and you'll see what I mean.
I think I've just listened to so much stuff that's so immaculately (often over) produced that this sounding so grainy and messy and mushed together is actually refreshing.

Definitely true. Although of course there are advantages to taking it either way I do think the liberties taken whilst running this through said grater have really helped the nuances and detail of the music come to fruition.

agree with the sentiment about overproduced things in the general sense for Sure

I've tried to get into this....but isn't it just like blast beats then quiet part then blast beats with shit production? Hardly worth a five across the board when this has been going on in black metal for thirty years?

Overproduced shit sucks, especially in metal, and lofi or raw production can be complimentary to a lot of styles in contrast to that point. But this is just Rest-tier production. It sounds like it was recorded through a string-telephone. There is a line.

havent heard this but s/t's production is perfect for the material

I like the production on Das Tor much better. It's a bit meatier, which oddly makes the ice bite a bit more.
