there's loads yeah, I am the leading authority on sh't like this band so that's why I can dismiss them a lil bit

just because I am correct doesn't mean I'm high wtf...I get so misinterpreted because of my profile pic...

I'm sad now and will roll one up after lunch...

"Or maybe English isn't his first language?" It is not. Luckily guys like Rel don't give up on me here X)

does anyone else here think this latest album just sounds more impressive than the 90s stuff?(not bringing the arrangements/songs themselves into the argument as such)

I agree that something about it seems more rounded, I would put this on the same level but with repeated lessons it could overtake their 90's stuff. Although judging from our ratings I'm already more impressed haha.

I don't remember but I have a 3 on Downward. While this is leaning towards 3.5-4.

to me it’s impressive, to the extent that they completely wow’d me after following them since a lad. sure the vocals were never the main appeal, but the riffs and drumming they’ve always churned out with are just solid as what they laid out here. sure the production back then isn’t the best but then I’d be talking shit about most other 90s releases and their productions instead of seeing the appeal of what was laid out, like the nerdy “space” rock fuzzy atmosphere I honestly haven’t heard matched around then.

and fair enough doofle, you’ve long proven your 90s passions. I always thought of these guys similar to Failure and Spacemen 3 at times and much less Pumpkins and Loveless since, to me, their approaches weren’t similar since Hum had this post-hardcore feel and drone approaches to em at times.

also I don't much like Failure so that might explain the slight non-love

Spacemen 3 are way more narcotic n' messy than this band I think

ngl there are moments here that reminds me of Downward and Astronaut but slower

as for the spot-on ‘narcotic’ descriptor, that’s what I hear in Astronaut thru the vocals and the floaty sections.

Damn Doof no love for Fantastic Planet? That's a top ten 90s album imo.

'Fantastic Planet' is ok, I have it on a 3 I think - never sunk in those hooks really, and some of their newer stuff I don't like at all

this album does overload a bit on what I call the 'MBV churn' sound - the 'Loveless' influence is super pronounced but some of it gets a bit more riff'y and metal even (this has a 'metal' descriptor on RYM whatever you make of that)

This band's vocals have never been the strong point but they do fit the sound perfectly.

I don't hear much Loveless at all on this tbh, the bits that do remind me of MBV are a stretch and more similar to You Made Me Realise

the metal influence is obvious, but MBV don’t own the whammy bar lol

also to keep bringing them up cuz they were around the same era and played shoegaze is a bit noobish

first song is literally 90% overlap with a song from 'Loveless' come now and they didn't sound quite like that in the 90s

definitely not like 'You Made Me Realise' - their 90s stuff is closer to that!

this is a BIG sound (dunt get bigger than Loveless) clean thy ears

okay yes lol, now you mention it I do remember getting Only Shallow vibes from the opener (which entirely coincidentally is probs my least favourite and least jammed, so my bad)
