I don't think they're relaxed and confident enough. As if they're playing in a frame, and rarely come out to make that odd but impressive stroke. It's the same with that girl who sings, she seems to care so much about how she sounds. they play safe, which makes the work lose enough character and identity.

Definitely. Even just her her singing adds enough to the sound to make it more interesting. She sings loads on her solo stuff and it's all nice

i’d understand the not rough around the edges enough criticism if this was a metal record or something, but it’s not. the amount of polish is entirely appropriate and does the compositions justice

"the amount of polish is entirely appropriate and does the compositions justice"
mostly agree with this insofar as this isn't overproduced or whatever, the writing and performance is just q dull

should probably add quotation marks to my last post, I actually don't want to be associated with such a statement

Her voice is lovely, for sure. It fits the atmosphere. It's just a bit one-dimensional.

Wouldn't exactly say the singer from Tricot has a Disney princess voice. It's a little rough around the edges.

“i’d understand the not rough around the edges enough criticism if this was a metal record or something“
I do not care about the music style the most. The choice of instruments, style, and singing are all just choices made for the performance quality you want to reach. I feel like this one is quite lackluster.
I absolutely believe she can write tons of great riffs, however, that doesn't mean she writes attractive songs.
and it is true that she has a wonderful voice, which also doesn't mean she does great vocal performance.
capable musician, average record. (edit: when it has too much potential to be more than a background sound, therefore i am kinda mad)
“should probably add quotation marks to my last post, I actually don't want to be associated with such a statement”
Yeah, I say silly things all the time, so...

Not super surprising to me that her songwriting chops aren't up-to-par with her playing ability. I find it's fairly common with these virtuoso types who start writing. Often higher on the technical level and quality, but lacking in raw feeling that you want in some great music.

so well said. One is "I compose, then I play for it" and the other is "I can play, so I compose."

Nero is so good. the last 2 minutes or so might be my favorite thing they've done

Nero I think is one of the bands strongest outputs. It's got a ton of spicy, mathy riffs and the drummer really shines there too. (The most memorable for me, anyways.)
