@carlton "Ronald the John" Temple
But like, your only criticism of the song is something that could be leveled at every song with a verse and a chorus? Bold of you to assume you've actually got some kind of defensible position.
Congrats on reaching new levels of dumb dumb juice drinker by completely missing that by "theme" i was referring to the musical one, i.e. the 4 bars containing the arpeggio that makes up the main melody and the syncopated rim shots. You're trying to say I'm contradicting myself, but are completely ignoring the fact that what I'm mostly preoccupied with is you calling the songwriting lazy when you won't even meet the song on its own terms. If you can't here how the chord progressions through the instrumental breaks vary the feel of the song, I'm not sure what to tell you? except maybe to take a header through a jib board wall?
you're trying to have a go at the song for being melodically simple bit like, literally what is it supposed to do? Again, you refuse to meet the song on its own terms and its somehow Cocteau Twins fault and not you being a meathead with the most precious taste on the site?
I will not take lip from a man who would prefer to shit via c-section

Some days I like this more than HOLV. “Carolyn’s Fingers” is prob my fave CT track.
|
| |
“Carolyn’s” fingers is so powerful at the start but I kinda wish its chorus were less so just the verse sliced in half. Doesn’t generate energy
I think this is like a low 3.5 and HOLV prob a high 4.5 but I get thinking the gap isn’t so big

the gap is quite big for me also
plenty of good non-HOLV / Treasure material throughout their discog but nothing else quite comes together / feels as 'essential' as those two for me
|
| |
That one part of athol-brose where it breaks free into that one big chord and she hits that YEAH-EAH-EAH-EHAHHHHHH is so good
